The venue is ContainR, right near the Sunnyside LRT Station. It’s an Art Park.

Does anyone remember 20 years ago when the WNBB played the band shell in Riley Park? This will be like that, only 1) A Weeknight, 2) Kickstarted by a community donor, but sustained by your Pay What You Can cover charge, and 3) A few blocks further east.

Come support the band and show your love for the musicians and for live outdoor friendly urban music events!

Spring shows and new photos

Hello jazz fans. We want to keep you abreast of a number of upcoming events.

Coming up fairly soon on April 2nd the Calgary Creative Arts Ensemble (Calgary’s newest big band) is hosting a theatre event "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants" at Theatre Junction. The CCAE exists to explore and expand the great Canadian big band songbook. If you are interested in contemporary big band music in a theatre setting, you’ll want to attend.

Always be sure to check JazzYYC for Calgary jazz events. On the big band scene, upcoming on the calendar is WNBB alumnus Deanne Matley with the Prime Time Big Band at Ironwood March 28 and April 11. On March 28, trumpet player Jens Lindemann will be joining this band.

April 30th is International Jazz Day and the date of the WNBB’s next performance. Look for us at Festival Hall in Inglewood. Details to be announced.

May 1st we are joining our friends the Jazz-niks for their fundraising big band dance. This is "members and invited guests" only, as per liquor board regulations, so talk to a band member and sign up if you want to come. Last year it was great fun. There will be a focus on danceable music.

May 13th we will return to Dickens. We are currently choosing which new songs to feature at Dickens.

In June, you might find us down in Lethbridge. Details to be announced.

Finally, we have new band photos from Gerry David, from Dickens in February. They are gradually appearing on our website and on our Facebook page.
